Lead, Don't Follow Trends

At Sturgess Architecture, we create extraordinary spaces where enduring memories are made. As architects, we believe it's critical to the success of the business not to follow design trends, but rather to be leaders. Trends are a snapshot in time. Architecture that endures is rooted in place and context: our spaces enrich lives through functionality, sustainability, and beauty. While context is often understood as site surroundings, we see context as much more.

For example, when the world came to a metaphorical halt with the COVID-19 pandemic, our office investigated how we could help solve the 'work from home' challenges and the resultant office vacancy problems. Rather than standing by, we strive to be an example of excellence in design and to be a source of inspiration.

Attend Industry Trade Shows

I attend at least one, and usually two, lectures at the trade shows and ask questions. These good folks have spent hours and hours researching trends that are happening and also what is in the pipeline for years to come. I don't always have to agree 100% with what they say, but there is usually a strong direction.

Dallas Lighting Show, AKA Lightovation, Atlanta Merchandise Mart, and the High Point Furniture Market are all great shows that I regularly attend and that offer wonderful lectures.
